Canadian Copper Files EIA for Murray Brook Deposit in New Brunswick, Advancing Critical Mineral Development

Canadian Copper (CSE: CCI) has taken a significant step toward bringing its Murray Brook copper deposit into production, submitting an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) registration document to New Brunswick's Department of Environment and Local Government. The filing marks a key regulatory milestone for the company's flagship project, located within the Bathurst mining camp in northern New Brunswick. The registration document will be made publicly available on the provincial government's website, with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and the general public invited to submit feedback as part of the review process.

Murray Brook is currently in advanced exploration, with pre-development stripping already complete. According to a 2013 preliminary economic assessment, the project carries more than a decade of projected mine life, positioning it as a near-term development opportunity in the critical minerals space. Simon Quick, CEO of Canadian Copper, emphasized the project's strategic significance in a news release.

"From a Canadian-domiciled mining perspective, we are one of the few near-term critical mineral development projects that have a visible production horizon coupled with a strong balance sheet and project financing," Quick stated. "Our objective is to make this EIA review process all-encompassing and ensure the restart scenario is well understood and supported locally." The project also carries support from local Indigenous leadership. Chief Terry Richardson of Pabineau First Nation expressed his willingness to collaborate with the company, noting that economic development in the region represents an opportunity for economic reconciliation.

"We see economic development in the region as an opportunity for economic reconciliation and as well creating economic growth in the northern region of New Brunswick," Richardson said. Following the public comment period, the EIA registration document will be reviewed by a technical review committee assembled by the New Brunswick government. The committee retains the authority to issue requests for additional project information, clarifications, or further technical studies before a final decision is rendered.

To engage directly with the local community and stakeholders, Canadian Copper plans to host a public information event in Bathurst, New Brunswick, on July 29, 2026, where the company will discuss the project and its development plans. The EIA submission comes at a time when demand for copper continues to be driven by the global energy transition, with the metal playing a central role in electric vehicles, renewable energy infrastructure, and grid modernization. Canadian Copper's advancement of Murray Brook underscores the growing importance of domestic critical mineral supply chains in North America.
