Torr Metals Inc. (TMET:TSX.V) has released a geological update from its fully funded Phase II drill program at the Bertha North target within the Kolos Copper-Gold Project in southern British Columbia, according to a July 22 company release. The program includes up to 6,000 meters of drilling and represents a significant step forward in the junior explorer's effort to define a previously untested porphyry copper-gold system. The initial drill hole, designated 26-KO-01, intersected an extensive, long-lived hydrothermal system extending to approximately 563 meters below surface.
Within that interval, geologists identified a highly prospective section measuring approximately 142 meters of core, from 318.5 meters to 460.9 meters, containing multiple phases of quartz-carbonate veining, crackle-style to hydrothermal brecciation, copper sulfides, and increasingly intense sericitic alteration hosted by favorable volcanic rocks cut by felsic intrusions. The results further refine the company's developing geological model, which is focused on locating the intrusive source believed to have generated the large hydrothermal native copper system identified during the Phase I drill campaign in late 2025. While laboratory assays remain pending, company management expressed confidence in the geological picture emerging from the program.
"One of the greatest advantages of drilling a completely untested porphyry target is that every meter significantly de-risks the geological model while advancing the potential for a brand-new discovery," said Malcolm Dorsey, President and Chief Executive Officer of Torr Metals. "While laboratory assays remain pending, the geology has been extremely encouraging." Detailed geological logging combined with portable X-ray fluorescence screening identified a sequence of hydrothermal events, with the most intensely altered and structurally prepared sections corresponding to distinct multi-element geochemical signatures. Geological observations confirmed evidence of early high-temperature magnetite alteration that was later overprinted by repeated brittle fracturing, several stages of quartz-carbonate veining, open-space toothcomb quartz growth, and younger alteration and oxidation.
These features point to prolonged movement of mineralized fluids through a structurally prepared corridor. Where fresher rock is exposed, geologists observed chalcopyrite and chalcocite, supporting the interpretation of a long-lived copper-bearing hydrothermal system. The company believes this zone represents a major structurally controlled feeder corridor within a porphyry copper-gold system and provides an important vector for future drill targeting.
Torr's geological model also draws on geophysical data. The strongest veining, alteration, brecciation, and magnetite development occur near the boundary between a magnetic-resistive domain and an adjacent chargeability anomaly, helping refine drill targeting toward the interpreted intrusive source. "The progressive increase in hydrothermal brecciation, multi-stage veining, alteration, felsic intrusions, and structural preparation at the transition between the resistive and chargeable geophysical domains is exactly what we expected to encounter within a major hydrothermal feeder corridor," Dorsey stated.
"Hole 26-KO-02 was designed as a follow-up to confirm the geometry of this interpreted feeder system, and we now believe it represents a direct connection to the porphyry intrusion driving the broader hydrothermal system." The Kolos project sits in southern British Columbia's Quesnel Terrane, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of the Highland Valley Copper Mine, Canada's largest open-pit copper operation, and 40 kilometers south of Kamloops along Highway 5. The road-accessible location allows year-round drilling. Torr owns the approximately 275-square-kilometer Kolos project outright, while the Bertha North target being drilled lies on the adjoining 57-square-kilometer Bertha Property, which Torr optioned in March 2025 with a pathway to full ownership.
Technical analyst John Newell of John Newell & Associates, who reviewed Torr Metals in a February 5 stock analysis published on Streetwise Reports, praised the company for its disciplined exploration strategy. "Torr's strategy is straightforward but disciplined: identify large, underexplored copper-gold systems in proven belts, advance them methodically to drill-ready status, and create discovery leverage in jurisdictions where new deposits are scarce but desperately needed," Newell wrote. He established price targets of CA$0.24 and CA$0.48, along with a longer-term target range of CA$0.60 to CA$0.65, and rated the stock a Speculative Buy.
The exploration update arrives against a backdrop of sharply rising copper prices. According to a July 21 report by Mining.com, September copper futures on COMEX advanced 3.3% to US$6.55 per pound, approaching the record high set in early June, while three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange rose 1.7% to US$13,851 per tonne. The rally was driven by signs of tightening physical supplies in China and renewed expectations of potential U.S. tariffs on refined copper imports.
China's physical copper market showed mounting supply constraints, with the premium for spot copper cathode over Shanghai futures climbing to 435 yuan per tonne, its highest level since May 2025. Copper stocks held in Shanghai Futures Exchange warehouses have fallen 82% since early May, while LME inventories have declined 28% over the same period, according to the Mining.com report. ING commodities strategist Ewa Manthey commented that "Copper is being pulled higher by a tightening Chinese market," while noting that the rally will likely require additional evidence of continued physical supply tightness to extend further.
Research firm BMI, part of Fitch Solutions, raised its forecast for the average copper price in 2026 to US$12,700 per tonne from a previous estimate of US$11,900, according to a separate July 16 Mining.com report by Frik Els. BMI attributed the higher outlook to tightening supply conditions, market disruptions linked to tariff expectations, and continued optimism surrounding artificial intelligence. Despite the upward revision, BMI's 2026 forecast remains below the Bloomberg consensus estimate of US$13,007 per tonne and Macquarie's recently increased forecast of US$13,165 per tonne.
Goldman Sachs has maintained its 2026 copper forecast at US$12,650 per tonne while continuing to project a global copper surplus of 490,000 tonnes this year. BMI's longer-term outlook is more bullish than many of its peers, projecting average copper prices of US$13,500 per tonne in 2028, US$15,000 in 2029, US$15,800 in 2030, and US$17,000 per tonne by 2035. The firm stated that "over the longer term, we expect prices to reach US$17,000/tonne in 2035, as the structural deficit persists due to a strong demand outlook as the green transition accelerates towards the latter half of the decade." Torr Metals has a market capitalization of CA$8.43 million and 84.02 million shares outstanding.
The stock trades in a 52-week range between CA$0.08 and CA$0.27 per share. Approximately 12% of the company is owned by insiders and close associates, with top shareholders including Torr Resources Corp., owned by CEO Malcolm Dorsey, holding 4.76%, and John Williamson holding 3.40%. The next major catalysts for the company are laboratory assay results from Hole 26-KO-01, followed by results from Hole 26-KO-02, which is designed to further define the geometry and orientation of the interpreted hydrothermal feeder corridor.
Subsequent drilling will target the coincident magnetic, resistive, and chargeability anomalies that Torr interprets as the highest-priority vectors toward the porphyry intrusive source.
