Neodymium Rare Earth Prices Slip on Monthly Basis Despite Year-on-Year Gains

Neodymium rare earth prices traded flat at 952,500 CNY per tonne on August 25, 2026, according to data from Trading Economics. The commodity has experienced a pullback over the past month, declining 4.75% during this period, though it maintains a substantial year-on-year premium of 24.50% when compared to prices one year prior, based on contract for difference trading that tracks the benchmark market. Historically, neodymium rare earth reached an all-time high of 1,520,000 CNY per tonne in February 2022.

The data was last updated on August 25, 2026. Looking ahead, Trading Economics global macro models and analyst expectations suggest neodymium is forecast to trade at 960,920.09 CNY per tonne by the end of the current quarter. Over a longer twelve-month horizon, analysts estimate the commodity will reach 1,032,605.25 CNY per tonne.

The monthly price decline reflects ongoing market dynamics within the rare earth complex, though the significant year-on-year appreciation underscores sustained demand pressures for this critical material. Neodymium remains essential for high-strength permanent magnets used in renewable energy applications, particularly in wind turbines and electric vehicle motors, supporting its pricing resilience despite near-term weakness.
