U.S. Crude Oil and Petroleum Product Spot Prices Show Mixed Volatility Through Early August 2026

Spot prices for crude oil and petroleum products across the United States demonstrated significant volatility during the final week of July and early August 2026, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on August 5, 2026. West Texas Intermediate crude oil at Cushing, Oklahoma, traded in a wide range during the period, closing at 81.96 dollars per barrel on August 3, 2026, representing a decline from the peak of 86.16 dollars per barrel recorded on July 31, 2026.

Brent crude oil prices showed similar patterns, closing at 88.90 dollars per barrel on August 3 after reaching 96.95 dollars per barrel on July 31, 2026. Conventional gasoline prices at New York Harbor for regular grade finished at 2.986 dollars per gallon on August 3, down from 3.226 dollars per gallon a week earlier. U.S.

Gulf Coast regular gasoline similarly declined to 3.086 dollars per gallon from 3.351 dollars per gallon. RBOB regular gasoline in Los Angeles closed at 3.328 dollars per gallon, down from 3.608 dollars per gallon on July 31. Distillate fuel markets also reflected the broader price weakness.

Ultra-Low-Sulfur No. 2 diesel fuel at New York Harbor settled at 3.898 dollars per gallon on August 3, declining from 4.161 dollars per gallon seven days prior. Gulf Coast diesel prices fell to 3.868 dollars per gallon from 4.134 dollars per gallon, while Los Angeles diesel closed at 4.006 dollars per gallon compared to 4.264 dollars per gallon on July 31.

No. 2 heating oil at New York Harbor declined to 3.768 dollars per gallon from 4.026 dollars per gallon over the same period. Kerosene-type jet fuel at the U.S.

Gulf Coast closed at 3.506 dollars per gallon on August 3, down from 3.880 dollars per gallon on July 31. Propane prices at Mont Belvieu, Texas, remained relatively stable, closing at 0.655 dollars per gallon compared to 0.659 dollars per gallon on July 31. The data indicates broad-based price declines across most petroleum products during the measurement period, with crude oil prices falling approximately 5 dollars per barrel for WTI and approximately 8 dollars per barrel for Brent between July 31 and August 3, 2026.

Weekly data released by EIA are calculated as unweighted averages of daily closing spot prices for each product over the specified time period. The next scheduled data release is set for August 12, 2026. Source: U.S.
