VMAC has released its 2026 State of the Mobile Compressed Air Industry Report, pointing to measured fleet growth, strong demand for rotary screw air compressors and improved business confidence despite ongoing economic uncertainty, according to VMAC and Supply Post. The annual report draws on responses from professionals across North America, including fleet managers, operators, mechanics, service truck upfitters, transportation companies, agricultural businesses, utilities and municipalities. VMAC said the findings show an industry that remains practical, resilient and focused on measured growth.
Economic conditions were identified as the leading business concern, but 90% of respondents expect conditions to remain stable or improve over the next 12 months, up from 82% in 2025, VMAC said. Mike Pettigrew, VMAC Marketing Manager, said fleet operators continue to prioritize uptime and productivity, and are increasingly choosing integrated rotary screw compressed air systems to help maximize productivity while reducing downtime. The report said more than 76% of respondents operate service trucks or vans.
It also found that more than 73% of air compressor users prefer rotary screw technology over reciprocating compressors, more than 78% require less than 100 CFM for service vehicle applications, 35.2% identified the air compressor as the single most important piece of equipment on their service vehicle, 45.8% have air compressors installed on every service truck in their fleet, and approximately 86% use pneumatic impact wrenches. VMAC said the report is intended to help fleet operators, manufacturers, upfitters and equipment suppliers benchmark their operations and better understand the technologies, purchasing priorities and business pressures shaping the mobile compressed air market.
