Galvanized Plain Sheet Prices Show Regional Divergence in 2026, North America Firm Amid Supply Tightness

The global galvanized plain sheet market has entered 2026 with pronounced regional variations driven by supply conditions, raw material costs, trade policies, energy expenses, and downstream demand, according to ChemAnalyst data. Galvanized plain sheet, also known as galvanized steel sheet or HDG sheet, is widely used in construction, roofing, automotive manufacturing, appliances, HVAC systems, and industrial fabrication due to its corrosion resistance and durability. The product is produced by coating steel sheet with zinc through a continuous hot-dip galvanizing process.

The North American market showed strength at the start of 2026, with the Galvanized Plain Sheet Price Index in the United States increasing by 5.58 percent quarter-over-quarter for the quarter ending March 2026, with average prices at approximately USD 1,356.67 per metric ton. The market was supported by disciplined domestic mill allocations and moderated import arrivals, allowing domestic suppliers to maintain firm offers while service centers replenished inventories. Production cost pressure remained relatively restrained because zinc and hot-rolled coil costs were comparatively stable.

US prices continued climbing sharply through June 2026 as extended mill outages, long lead times, and reduced foreign arrivals tightened availability, with demand from construction, HVAC, roofing, and automotive applications providing sustained support. The Asia-Pacific market presented a contrasting picture. In South Korea, the Galvanized Plain Sheet Price Index declined by 1.64 percent quarter-over-quarter during the quarter ending March 2026, with average prices at approximately USD 781 per metric ton.

The regional market was affected by cautious purchasing and softer demand conditions, with construction and appliance demand providing only limited support. Buyers remained careful about inventory accumulation amid intermittent export bookings and reduced merchant inventories. Production costs faced pressure from zinc premium movements and changes in LNG prices, while mill maintenance and supply disruptions also affected coating feed availability.

According to ChemAnalyst, maintenance activity and the Hyundai Steel strike contributed to tighter coil supply, while falling zinc inventories and higher LNG costs added pressure to galvanizing operations. Europe recorded one of the strongest regional price movements during the first quarter of 2026. In Germany, the Galvanized Plain Sheet Price Index increased by 9.06 percent quarter-over-quarter, with average quarterly prices at approximately USD 891 per metric ton.

The European market received support from tighter import availability, quota management, and regulatory checks affecting incoming material. CBAM-related import delays and controlled quota utilization limited third-country shipments, strengthening the position of domestic suppliers. Elevated electricity tariffs and firmer zinc prices increased conversion costs for mills and galvanizers.

While demand from the construction sector remained cautious, automotive and appliance procurement continued to provide relatively consistent support. Asian material remained competitive in certain markets, limiting the ability of domestic suppliers to raise prices aggressively. In Brazil, the Galvanized Plain Sheet Price Index declined by 4.58 percent quarter-over-quarter during the first quarter of 2026, with average prices at approximately USD 660.33 per metric ton on a delivered reference basis.

The decline was primarily associated with softer import parity and increased material availability, with higher import arrivals creating downward pressure on domestic pricing. Freight declines and currency movements also affected landed costs and influenced the competitiveness of imported material. The market experienced some recovery during March as construction and appliance demand improved spot availability, while anti-dumping duty developments increased landed offers and temporarily supported domestic prices.

Key factors influencing galvanized plain sheet prices in 2026 include zinc prices, hot-rolled coil and steel substrate costs, energy costs, construction and infrastructure demand, automotive and appliance production, trade policies and import restrictions, freight and logistics costs, and inventory levels. The global Galvanized Plain Sheet Price Forecast for the remainder of 2026 points toward continued regional divergence rather than a uniform global trend.
