Germany's crude steel output fell 13.0% year on year in September 2026 to 2.63 million mt, according to data released by the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl). Despite the monthly weakness, cumulative production for January-September 2026 rose 4% year on year to 26.53 million mt, as reported by SteelOrbis. WV Stahl attributed the September decline mainly to a 20.2% year-on-year decrease in oxygen steel production.
Based on output in the first nine months, the federation estimated full-year 2026 crude steel production at 35.4 million mt. This compares with its earlier projection of 37.3 million mt, which was based on first-half production. Pig iron output in Germany totaled 1.56 million mt in September, down 19.9% year on year.
Production in the January-September period increased 2.6% to 16.49 million mt. Hot rolled steel output declined 10.6% year on year to 2.32 million mt in September. In the first nine months of 2026, it rose 2.5% to 23.33 million mt.
