According to the latest data released by Federacciai, the Italian federation of steel companies, and reported by SteelOrbis, Italy's crude steel production totaled 1.9 million metric tons in September 2026, up 2.1% from September 2025. After year-on-year declines in July (-1.6%) and August (-3.5%), output returned to positive territory in September. By product family, the two main hot-rolled product categories showed diverging trends. Long product output remained stable year on year at 1.2 million metric tons in September. In the January-September period, long product output totaled 9.6 million metric tons, up 4.7% from the same period of 2025.
Flat product output, by contrast, returned to a downward trend. September production stood at 736,000 metric tons, down 17.0% year on year, and flat product output in the first nine months of 2026 totaled 6.5 million metric tons, a decrease of 4.2%. The source does not provide an explanation for the movements in either segment, and the two trends are reported separately.
