According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tin plate totaled 57,671 metric tons in June 2026, representing a significant decline of 25.7 percent compared to May 2026. The year-on-year contraction was even more pronounced, with June 2026 imports down 41.6 percent from June 2025. In terms of import value, tin plate shipments to the United States totaled $77.98 million in June 2026, down from $93.51 million in May 2026 and substantially lower than the $153.64 million recorded in June 2025.
Canada emerged as the largest source of US tin plate imports in June, supplying 14,527 metric tons compared to 9,746 metric tons in May and 7,977 metric tons in June 2025. Germany was the second leading supplier with 12,662 metric tons of tin plate exports to the US market. Additional significant sources included Turkey with 7,236 metric tons, the Netherlands with 6,233 metric tons, South Korea with 5,235 metric tons, and Spain contributing 4,886 metric tons.
The sharp month-on-month decline suggests notable shifts in US flat steel demand and import patterns during the second quarter of 2026.
